The plan is to play one game of vets rugby for former players of both clubs aged over 40 (there’s no maximum age cap!).
The game will be hosted by Ormskirk RUFC on 15 June 2024 (kick off 1.00pm).
The game will be played over four 20-minute quarters to allow for old bodies and bones to sufficiently rest and recover and it is anticipated that each team would assemble a squad of
25-30 players for game day with rolling subs.
The main aim of the event will be to galvanise and connect old mates but additionally, it will raise funds for a specific charity or charities yet to be determined. There will need to be plenty of planning ahead of game day to include a referee and assistants, sponsors, catering and after match hospitality, physios and medical attendees, kit, insurance
and much more.
It is proposed that each squad will train together with each other twice ahead of the match, in an attempt to put names to faces and improve the competitive spirit ahead of match day. This will be a friends and family event and despite there being a trophy and bragging rights on the line, the match will be a spectacle of exemplary old school rugby behaviour!
