4 days and counting …….and lots of new exciting things to look forward to for the start of the Orrell RUFC 2019 season

Saturday 7 September sees the first home game for our 2XV and 3XV

Saturday, 7th September sees our 2XV and our new 3XV first run out of the season vs Aldwinians 2 and Southport 3. Both games will be played at “home” at St John Rigby College and both games will kick off at 3.00pm.

We are delighted that, due to our great relationship with St John Rigby College, we are now able to offer not just 1 game at home but 2 on most Saturdays (and sometimes 3 home games) throughout the season (please check the fixtures list for the full games timetable). Unfortunately, we won’t be able to help you with which match to watch but we will be able to keep you updated on all the games via our Match Day Reporting on Twitter and Facebook. [Just in case, follow us now on @ORUFC on both Twitter and Facebook]. Post-match reporting will also be available via our website and social media should you not be able to make your mind up which game you want to watch!

Thanks also to the team at St John Rigby College we are now able to offer improved match day facilities including the use of the conservatory, post and pre match (and during if you wish) for food and drink. We’d like to say a huge thank you to the Wigan Beer Company for their continued support of the Club and for helping us provide better match day facilities for our supporters and friends.

There will still be the usual match day refreshments provided by our great friends Angela and David and team but now we can offer them the comfort of a warm place from which to serve! There will also be a pop-up shop (just in case you need a new Orrell RUFC hoody) and plenty of information to read (not during the match of course) about how our new ground is progressing, upcoming events, etc.

The club is also very excited that Andy Craig has agreed to host the 1XV game vs Garstang on 28th September. Andy joined Orrell in 2000 after a successful RL career with Wigan and Scotland, making 80 appearances for Orrell & scoring 295 points in 4 years. We are hoping to get more past players down and involved on match day and anybody interested in sharing a few stories and catching up with old friends should get in contact with Dave Hewlett / John Huyton to arrange a date.

Also, new for this season will be our new sponsor screen … whereby all our sponsors (new and old) will be highlighted; plus, match day footage (thanks to @FilmMyMatch) and lots more. Something to think about if you want your company or family event mentioned during our match days?

Tomorrow we have even more exciting news regarding the Dr1ve Medicals Arena!

The Future is Black and Amber

Orrell RUFC is a founding member of the Orrell & Winstanley Community Sports Club
The Orrell & Winstanley Community Sports Club Joint Venture
As you know, Orrell RUFC and Winstanley Park CC have joined forces to develop a much-needed Community Sports club. The clubs have signed a 99 year lease for the 13 acre site, situated next to Winstanley College, which will provide a permanent home for both organisations and an opportunity to boost both their thriving junior sections. The new family orientated facilities will play host to Orrell RUFC, who will finally find a permanent home after leaving their Edgehall Road ground ten years ago. The new buildings will also enable the cricket club to continue to meet the requirements for affiliation to the Southport and District League. The facility will be available to other community groups, with a particular focus on providing a sporting outlet for children which will help create a more cohesive and sustainable community.
