The Lloyd/Joice family will be watching the rugby this Saturday (10th February) for more reasons than England is playing Wales!

Our very own Nic Joice will be waving the flag (as part of the CBRE ALL Schools Celebration Event) prior to the start of the game. Nic (with a very proud Grandfather in tow) was chosen after he and his two sisters, Toni and Angel, representing Upholland High School, were invited by Canterbury and the RFU to Bury Rugby Club (along with other clubs) to design a rugby shirt for their school. All three play rugby for Orrell RUFC; Toni and Angel for the Girls Team and Nic for our U11s.

Helped by Canterbury, the team of Toni, Angel and Nic, produced a design for the school; from which Canterbury will now produce a full set of shirts for the school. As a follow up, the RFU contacted the school and asked if one of their students would like to attend the CBRE All Schools Celebration Event, together with a member of staff of the school and a relative, to attend the England v Wales Six Nations match at Twickenham. Nic Joice was the lucky student to be asked.

There will be preparation, rehearsals and photographs with RFU officials prior to the event and then transport to the stadium for the waving flag ceremony before the start of the game. All the students involved can choose whether they wear a school shirt and tie or a club kit and Nic has chosen to wear his Orrell RUFC kit.

What an opportunity for Nic, as an 11-year-old, to be on the pitch at Twickenham, representing his school and his Club; alongside the highest level of players of our game, while a proud grandfather- “Pops” will be sat in the stadium keeping an eye on him.
