u15s Kirkby Lonsdale 7 Orrell 36
Well I think today’s setting is the most picturesque place the lads have played rugby with perfect rugby conditions too. Well as seems to be the way this season we started slow conceding an early try of raw pace to give our hosts a 7 - 0 lead. And maybe that was the kick up the Arse the lads needed as this was this was their first and last points of the day as our lads kicked in to gear. This game was a good rugby Union game against a well drilled team. However after some strong play and overcoming a few errors we were able to capitalise with Jacob Barrow scoring a great try followed by a Louie conversion. A rare penalty neatly slotted from Louie gave us a 10 - 7 half time lead.
After a few words at half time the lads came out fired up to really show what this team is about. We knew we had to dig in and let our rugby do the talking. And thats exactly what they did with some good strong Carries & running forwards and support play there were trys for Skem, Jordan, Heath & Lucas O with 3 further conversions from Louie. It was a tough half of Rugby where the lads had to deal with some extremely controversial decisions, & constant offside all adding to the tension.
The lads could have lost their heads but didn’t the lads stuck to the plan and their Rugby did the talking mainly, despite a team that lost their heads and tried to drag us down to their level. Yes there were a few flash points but this is rugby it happens but we were proud of the lads and the way they stuck together and had each others backs when it mattered. The scrummaging was immense today and Kirkby had no answer to us. Final score 36 - 7.
There are some things which we need to work on in training not sure what was up but our line outs were shocking we lost more today than we have all season. Other areas we need to work on is knowing when to release the ball but we will work on all these things.
A special thank you to Matthew McKee who stepped up to play for us today in his first ever game of Union only being asked to play last night but meaning we could field a full 15??. And I don’t think he looked out of place.
MOM was tough today and could have gone to a number of the lads but Kirkby deservedly picked Skem??
Overall not a bad result to sign 2024 off on
